Car was driving perfectly all day today. Then I went to a friends house, came out a few hrs later start it up and start driving and notice it is sounding like my old supra. Then when i get onto a main road and try to give it gas it bucks but goes and even when i am cruising i feel the car bucking, as if i am varying the pressure of the gas pedal the whole time I am driving.
I just got my car back from a clutch install yesterday and due to my slipping clutch I havent really gotten on the car at all over the last couple months and today the car maybe saw 6k in 2nd once, but pretty easy driving. I never felt misfiring but cant say for sure it never has i just dont know what to look for when a car misses.
I just dont get what would make a car drive normal, then the 2nd time i start it up its not running on all 8 cylinders, can a coil or a spark plug just die?

Have you noticed any new engine noises? Have you checked for any DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes), or is the "check engine" light on?

i bet its a plug, everytime Ive had surging issues over the course of LT1 LS1 and LS6 it was a plug or plug wire.

The short answer is yes, they can. However, it is more likely that you have either a loose spark plug wire or that the valve covers are rubbing against the fuel injection harness on the drivers side on the motor (and you are not delivering fuel - the error codes will tell you which to look for). Good Luck

^ Check the fuel injector wiring harness on the driver's side. There's a bracket at the rear of the head that can rub through.

the strange thing is that no check engine light came on, i am going to my friends house to check it out, see which cylinder the problem is coming from

Here's a couple of things that I know can cause this:
fuel injector control module grounding out at the top back of the fuel rail
bad spark plug or plug wire.
loss of compression in one of the cylinders (valve or valve spring).
They are listed in order from "I'm glad it's just this" to "CRAP"...so the higher on the list your problem is the better...
My problem was number CRAP

just in case, what fuse do I need to pull so i can crank the motor without having fuel go in there so i can do a compression test

the EXACT same thing happened to me a month ago during an HPDE. car was misfiring, would 'bog down' when load was put on it-basically drove like it was on 4 instead of 8 cylinders. started a thread here, everyone was very helpful

found out 3 plug wires were completely disconnected.
the sleeves were barely holding them on, I suspect either they didn't use silicone when they put them on and the heat made them come off, or they were put on properly

well we did a test by unplugging each coil individually, the only one that didnt do anything was the back cylinder on the driver side, replaced the spark plugs on that side and nothing, switched the coil with another one from the same side, it seems like the problem is a little bit better but still really bad
(that may also be my imagination that it got any better). Tomorrow we are going to take the valve cover off just to check if the spring is not broken and pretty much take it to a mechanic after that.

I have had a similar problem with a Q45 some years ago and it turned out to be a fuel injector. I am not sure what the test is for this but there is one. I would bet this is the problem as it can be intermittent.

Is it possible you have a bad coil? If you moved it from one cylinder to another, then the dead cylinder would move with it. Not sure the problem would be better if that were the case. I would expect that throw a code, but it seems logical to me.

We basically tested to see which cylinder isnt doing anything by unplugging each coil one at a time and seeing how the idle reacted, we could feel a difference in idle for all but the back driver cylinder, when we swapped coils we could barely feel something for the back driver coil and still felt a bigger difference on the cylinder where we put the "presumed" bad coil. Is there any way to check coils to see if maybe one is just very weak?
Today we are going to take the valve cover off just to make sure one of my valve springs didnt break.
